Variations of a Japanese Army NCO Shin-Gunto Kaigun Rikusentai Sword, differentiated by the black steel guard (tsuba). It is mounted with a cast aluminum hilt painted to resemble the Officer's pattern. The hilt has survived in very nice condition with most of its paint finish still present. The machine made blade measures 26 1/4 inches in length also remaining in excellent condition with only some minor surface scratches. Although the numbers on the blade and scabbard do not match, they fit well and appear to have been together a long time. The metal scabbard has a few small dings, nevertheless still wears much of the original finish and remains in good condition. Rare item.
